Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are starting therapy for the first time or you’re familiar with therapy, below I have addressed some questions that I most often receive as a therapist.

1. I’m not sure I want therapy or that it will help.

Not sure you want to be in therapy? I get it. Many clients have identified that they “don’t know where to begin,” are “not sure what to expect,” and are “not sure therapy will help.” Or they’ve tried it before and didn’t find it very helpful. If you are undecided, I'd be happy to discuss this with you so that you can make a decision that feels best for you.

2. I’m having mixed feelings about starting therapy.

Are you feeling anxious, doubtful, embarrassed, or maybe even scared to share your life with someone you’ve never met? This is SO normal! It can, in fact, be difficult to start therapy. I will try to help you through these feelings.

3. How do I pick the right therapist?

Great question! I’d encourage you to first and foremost choose someone you feel comfortable with. Sometimes you feel this over the phone; other times it may take a few sessions to know for sure. Keep in mind that therapy can sometimes bring up mild anxiety, and that can be healthy. The right therapist will be supportive and understanding of your experiences, and willing to challenge your thoughts and patterns at the appropriate time.
